Advisory
The Public Good Institute supports organizations working through complex questions of governance, risk, technology, documentation, workforce and public accountability.
Where We Can Help
Governance, readiness, risk classification, staff use, vendor questions and implementation.
Decision structures, roles, oversight, board and executive clarity.
Documentation standards, workflow, accountability and the relationship between records and service quality.
Implementation, leadership, staff readiness, role clarity and organizational adoption.
Institutional communication, accountability, risk and learning following difficult or scrutinized events.
Closing the distance between what an organization says should happen and what actually occurs in operations.
The Approach
Advisory engagements begin with the actual institutional environment.
From there, the work may involve leadership briefings, governance reviews, diagnostics, workshops, policy review, implementation planning or focused advisory support.
The format follows the problem rather than forcing every problem into the same service model.
Ways We Work
These are the shapes an engagement usually takes. None of them is a package. Each begins with a conversation about what is actually going on, and the scope follows from that.
01
Something is not working, and the organization cannot yet name it precisely.
A structured assessment of a governance, operational or implementation concern. We interview across levels, read what the organization actually produces rather than what its policies say, and come back with a description of the problem the leadership team can recognise and act on.
Leaves you withA clear statement of the problem, what is driving it, and the two or three decisions that matter most.
02
Tools are already in use. The governance around them is not settled.
A review of where AI and digital tools currently touch decisions, what oversight exists, and where the organization is exposed. We look at staff practice as it is, not as policy imagines it, and at whether the vendor arrangements would survive scrutiny.
Leaves you withA risk picture, a governance position, and the vendor and oversight questions to ask before the next procurement.
03
Decisions get made. Who made them, on what basis, is harder to reconstruct.
An examination of decision rights, escalation, oversight and the records that carry them. The question is not whether the organization documents, but whether its documentation would hold up in a review, an inquiry or a change of leadership.
Leaves you withClarified decision rights, an oversight structure that fits the organization, and documentation standards people can actually meet.
04
The service is holding. The people holding it are not.
Workforce strain rarely announces itself as a strategic risk until it becomes a service failure. This engagement traces the load — administrative burden, supervision gaps, role ambiguity, turnover — and identifies which parts leadership can actually change.
Leaves you withA workforce risk picture, the pressures worth removing first, and a retention approach that does not rest on goodwill.
05
The problem is larger than one organization, one budget line or one mandate.
Complex organizational or cross-system change, where several bodies share responsibility and none of them controls the outcome. Scope, duration and structure are built around the specific system rather than a standard methodology.
Leaves you withA redesign the participating organizations can commit to, with the sequencing and accountability worked out.
06
The hard questions do not arrive on a project schedule.
Ongoing access to senior strategic counsel for chief executives and boards navigating scrutiny, technology decisions, governance change or institutional risk. Used well, it is the call before the decision rather than the review after it.
Leaves you withA standing thinking partner who already knows the organization when it matters.

What an Engagement Leaves Behind
Scopes differ. Depending on the engagement, organizations may leave with:
