Who we are

The Public Good Institute ("PGI", "we") is a national learning and advisory platform based in Alberta, Canada. This policy explains how we handle personal information in connection with this website and our programs, and it is written to meet the spirit and requirements of Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where it applies, Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What this website collects

Less than you might expect. This site currently runs without accounts, analytics trackers or advertising technology. Pages are served as pre-rendered static content; we do not set marketing cookies, and we do not build profiles of visitors.

Two technical points deserve plain statement. First, our typefaces are self-hosted and served from this site — your browser does not request fonts from Google or any other third party. Second, interactive tools on this site — such as the PGI QuickChecks — store your answers only in your own browser's local storage so you can leave and return. Those answers never leave your device and are not transmitted to PGI.

What you send us

When you write to us — through the enquiry form on this site or by email — we receive what you choose to send: typically your name, email address, organization, role and the content of your message. Enquiries submitted through the form are stored securely in this website's database so that a member of the Institute can read and respond; we use what you send to respond, to administer the program or enquiry it concerns, and for no other purpose without asking you. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with third parties except the service providers that host this website and its database, or where the law requires.

Programs, membership and accounts

When you register for a PGI program, membership or account, we collect what the registration form states — usually name, contact details, organization and role — and use it to deliver what you signed up for: administering cohorts, providing member resources, issuing invoices and sending the communications the program entails. You may ask us to stop non-essential communications at any time.

Do not include client, patient, child or service-user information in anything you send to PGI or enter into any PGI tool. Our instruments ask about organizational practice, never about identifiable people, and we ask you to keep it that way.

Retention, access and correction

We keep personal information only as long as the purpose it was collected for requires, plus any period the law demands, and then dispose of it securely. You may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where the law permits, by writing to info@publicgoodinstitute.ca. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
